Well I am not sure if I over sized the thickness of my peghead veneer or what, but my peghead is too thick for the Grover tuners to use their threaded bushings. I am only getting about 2 thread engaugement. I guess I will go with press fit bushings. There is plenty of post extention, just the bushings are to short to engauge well.

Anyone else ever done this

Michael, how thick is your headstock including your headstock veneer? I've got one in the white that is a tad on the thick side and the threaded bushings have sufficient engagement.

Anthony it is at home but is approching .68". I use a LMI cnc neck on this one to save time. I have use them in the past but it has been a while. I never ran into this problem before with them but have to confess to not double checking the raw thickness of the cnc'd peghead. I will just put press fit bushing on it. It is not a biggie but took me by supprise.

Can you counter sink them so the washers lay down in a cavity. That might get you a little more room.

In general I make mine 9/16 - thats about .563, but would never go any more than 5/8, which is .625 - i wouldnt think most tuners would be able to be mounted properly on something any thicker - you would have very little post showing.

The standard post length on Gotohs is 22.2mm to the string hole - the longest they do is on the adjustable ones, they can extend to 25. So if the bushing and washer are about 3mm, plus say 3 mm minimum for winds on the post below the hole, (22-6)/25.4 - .63 inches for your headstock thickness max.

countersinking sounds like the way to go here. Some people do this and it actually looks kind of cool. How you are gonna drill the hole is the scary part.

If I counter sink I would use a sacraficial dowel in the hole. That is no big issue. If I counter sink .06 I gain 3-4 threads. that bight be the ticket. but press fir bushing would get me through. I do have plenty of post below the string hole exposed after the press in bushing (.08 below the radiused winding area on on the post.)MichaelP38884.5403472222

Michael does your neck have a standard “serge like smile” volute or is it the diamond Martin style?   The reason I ask, is it to late to take down your headstock from 11/16” to 10/16”?
